Product Overview

When several people help look after a parent, things slip: a repeat prescription nobody ordered, a call nobody logged, a cost nobody split. This kit gives the family one shared record, so that everyone can see who is doing what and what is due.

  • Family Workbook (Excel and Numbers): the care circle and contacts; appointments with questions and outcomes; medicines copied from the pharmacy label, with when each supply runs out and when to order the repeat (skipping weekends and England and Wales bank holidays); tasks with one owner each, and a Task Board showing every person's open jobs; a log of calls and letters with reference numbers and next steps; claims and applications with chase dates; family costs with a fair split and settling up; and a weekly or monthly Status Report and a Fridge Sheet that fill themselves in.
  • Attorney Ledger (Excel and Numbers), England and Wales: for a property and financial affairs attorney under a lasting power of attorney (or an enduring power of attorney made before October 2007). The person's accounts kept separate, every payment with a running balance, a gifts log with the customary-occasion check, expense claims, important decisions with the reasons, and a period report to share with co-attorneys or family.
  • Guide and quick-reference sheets (PDF, 26 pages): the first family conversation, who owns what, sharing the record safely, recording medicines, what GOV.UK says about being a finance attorney (with sources), where to get help, and sheets to print: fridge sheet, emergency contacts, hospital bag, hospital stay, call log and weekly update.
  • Three Word letters: consent to share information; to the GP surgery about registering as a carer and family and carer access; to a bank or building society about registering an LPA.

The worked examples follow a fictional family: Margaret Ellis ("Mum"), cared for by Ruth, David, Claire and Tom. On Monday 9 November 2026 the Status Report shows 2 appointments in the week of 2 November and 3 in the next 14 days, 3 medicines to order or check, 11 open tasks (2 overdue), and £176.70 of shared family costs, with Tom owed £29.00. The Attorney Ledger's October report shows the current account moving from £3,444.30 to £3,294.41, gifts of £35.00 (a grandchild's birthday and a regular charity donation) and expenses of £36.80 repaid to an attorney.

Who it is for

  • Adult children and families sharing the care of a parent in the UK, nearby or at a distance.
  • A sibling who has become a finance attorney and wants a clear record to share.
  • Families who would rather keep their own file than ask everyone to adopt an app.

Compatibility & Access
  • Start with the Family Workbook: fill in the Care Circle, then add contacts, appointments, medicines and tasks. Type only in the shaded cells.
  • Share it carefully: the guide explains where to keep the master copy and who should see what. Keep the Attorney Ledger with the attorneys and share its Report.
  • Print the sheets from the print edition at 100% scale (Actual size). Open the digital edition in a PDF app on screen.
  • Adapt the letters in Microsoft Word: page 2 of each explains it; delete it before you send.
  • A record-keeping and co-ordination kit for families who look after a parent in the UK. It helps you keep track of appointments, medicines as prescribed, tasks, calls and letters, shared costs and, for a finance attorney in England and Wales, the person's money. It does not give medical, legal or financial advice. It does not check doses, interactions or timings: follow the prescriber and the pharmacist. It is not a medical record, not a secure system and not a form from the NHS, the Office of the Public Guardian or any organisation. The guidance on lasting powers of attorney applies to England and Wales; Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own rules.
  • In an emergency, call 999. For urgent medical help that is not an emergency, use the service for your nation. England: NHS 111 (call 111, or use NHS 111 online for anyone aged 5 or over). Scotland: NHS 24 on 111. Wales: NHS 111 Wales. Northern Ireland: contact your GP or your local GP out-of-hours service, and use your HSC Trust's Phone First route where it is available.
  • The medicine names in the worked example are placeholders, not real medicines or doses.
  • A spreadsheet is not a secure system. The guide gives practical advice on where to keep the files and how to share them. The workbooks have no place for passwords, PINs, full card numbers or security answers.
  • Benefit and official figures were checked on GOV.UK and NHS pages on 27 October 2026 and are listed, with their sources, on each workbook's Rates and Sources sheet.
  • The sheets are protected without a password, so that formulas are not overwritten by accident.
  • The PDFs contain no form fields. Links and bookmarks work in standard PDF readers.
  • This is a digital product: nothing is posted, and no shipping charge applies.
  • Printed results depend on your printer, ink and paper.
